We are conducting surveys, monitoring, and research on cougars (puma, mountain lion) on the Ladder Ranch in south-central New Mexico. Here, cougars are of particular interest given their effects on state-endangered desert bighorn sheep and other valuable big game. These projects are also resources for training and education, most notably through the Cougar Field Workshop.

Short of DNA evidence, this is probably the best evidence we will have that LF1 is still traveling with the two cubs that Megan and I first observed in October of 2008. In this photo there are three puma, two uncollared puma clearly visible in the foreground and one set of puma eye-shine in the back right. LF1's collar data confirm that she was near this camera on this night.
